Cathy Jewett, RN

  • Registered Nurse, Cardiovascular Navigator

Practice:
  • An outdoor adventurer and avid animal lover, with particular fondness for dogs, I grew up in Washington State where I earned my nursing degree. I then relocated to Havre, Montana and spent the next 5 years performing clinical nursing for a family medicine doctor. My next adventure took me to Billings, Montana where I spent the next 17 years as a critical care nurse in the Billings Clinic ICU. I most often was assigned to cardio-related patients post-surgery and found great joy in helping them get on the road to recovery. While I loved my job and the people I worked with, I knew there was more I wanted to achieve in my career. I was most interested when the position of Cardiovascular Coordinator became known to me. The move required a relocation to Alaska and while I would not have thought Alaska could outshine the serenity of Montana, I have been overwhelmed by all of the natural beauty this state has to offer.
Special Skills:
  • In my new role, I am pleased to apply my 20+ years’ experience as an RN to help build the cardiothoracic program in conjunction with the amazing team at NorthStarr. We are building an all-inclusive patient care platform that provides patients and their families the information, support, and follow-up that is unparalleled in this field. I get to spend one on one time with patients and families to answer questions, provide healthy habits and proposed exercise programs. I am able to let them know what to expect as they lead up to surgery, what to expect afterwards, and what steps to take during their recovery. I will always be a bedside nurse at heart and understand what the patient experiences while in the hospital. I am pleased to serve as a liaison to ensure communication is seamless and that we are a one unified team with the surgeons, nurses and of course the patients and families.
Selected Honors:
  • When not at work, you can find me kayaking, fat-tire biking, snow shoeing or hiking.
